ANSYME catalyzes connections between cellular neuroscience and systemic medicine, with a focus on the autonomic nervous system.
The founders of Ansyme are also patients with unsolved chronic conditions, and we’re not alone. Millions around the world struggle with food allergies, IBS, Long COVID, MCAS, ME/CFS, POTS, and more with no reliable relief.
Like many patients, we dove into medical research for answers. We found scientists who harnessed neural circuits (in mice) to control symptoms like ours - a unique opportunity that we wanted to support - so we looked for organizations that promote research into medical applications for this advanced neuroscience.
We didn’t find any.
Ansyme was founded to address this need.
The autonomic nervous system touches nearly every organ and system in the body. Mounting evidence indicates that it plays a significant role in chronic illness and health conditions, yet medical practice has few tools to harness its power. The bulk of neuroscience research is focused on cognition, sensory processing, motor systems, learning and memory - even as new techniques provide greater access to the autonomic areas than ever before.
There’s a gap between what’s possible and what’s being done, and we want to bridge it.
Ansyme is building a community of frontier scientists, physicians, and patients to bring attention to the autonomic nervous system and its impact on medical conditions. Through regular communication, our work promotes new biomedical ideas and collaborations. And because of our lived experiences, we keep patient outcomes at the forefront of everything we do.
The science behind what we do
Specific neural control circuits have been identified for symptoms including fatigue, fever, gut motility, itching, and sepsis. Our newsletter explores these topics and more, with articles written by scientists, clinicians, and patients, and an eye toward medical solutions. The breadth of conditions with unexplored opportunity in the autonomic nervous system keeps expanding, and we aim to keep tabs on it all.
We are always open to guest articles. If you have relevant research, insights, or ideas to contribute, we encourage you to review our call for authors.
Support our mission
Ansyme is a patient-led, volunteer-based 501(c)3 U.S. nonprofit organization. Every dollar goes toward our efforts to promote research into the autonomic nervous system and medical disorders.
Donations to Ansyme are tax deductible (EIN: 39-4247219), depending on your personal filing situation. We fundraise with Zeffy to ensure that 100% of your donation goes to our mission.
